SERVICES

Mediation

We are able to offer our clients and other
attorneys “out of  the courtroom” mediation
services. Why go to the courtroom when
you could likely save time and money with
mediation? Stephen R. King is a trained
Civil Mediator.

Family Law

Our firm has extensive expertise in family law.
We assist our clients through the entire
process of divorce, legal separation, domestic
partnerships, spousal support, prenuptial and
post-nuptial agreements. Our attorneys handle
restraining orders, child custody and visitation,
child support, adoption, guardianship, child
representation, juvenile and paternity matters.

Criminal Law

We aggressively defend clients accused of
felonies and misdemeanors such as assault,
theft, robbery, homicide, drug offenses,
sex offenses, domestic violence, embezzlement,
traffic offenses and drunken driving defense,
and license restoration. We work hard to
achieve justice.

General Litigation

Our attorneys have gained a broad range of
experience in handling adversary proceedings
in both state and federal courts. We have
represented individuals, public entities,
corporations, businesses and non-profit entities
in dispute matters arising in such diverse fields
as employment law, business and real estate
transactions, and personal injury cases.

Municipal Law

We represent clients by working with municipalities in
relation to a variety of issues such as zoning disputes
and appeals, variance requests, tax appeals, ordinance
enforcement and more. Our attorneys not only provide
representation in the courtroom, they also work with
their clients to develop plans for seeking approvals and
working with municipalities to find mutually beneficial
resolutions for both the community and the client.
Our firm also has a network of contacts (accounting
firms, engineering firms, architectural firms and others)
to provide for the best possible results.

Business Law

At the Law Offices of King & King, PLLC, we enjoy long
term relationships with many clients who own or operate
businesses. We strive to identify and develop practical
solutions for the many challenges in business today.
Our experience includes formation and operation of
legal entities, purchase and sale of businesses, liquor
licenses, negotiations and drafting of contracts,
business and tax planning, protection of intellectual
property rights and licensing, as well as insurance
and employment-related matters.

Wind Energy Law

Wind Energy law is a relatively new area of practice in
the State of Michigan. Because the U.S. Department of
Energy estimates that Michigan has the potential to be
one of the top eight states for wind energy generation
in the country, our attorneys have made it a priority to
stay up-to-date with the latest decisions in this very
important field. They are familiar with Michigan’s
guidelines for wind energy systems and the laws
surrounding zoning issues, on site use and utility grid
wind energy systems. Our attorneys are available to
represent your interests and provide guidance through
this sometimes complex area of law.

Personal Injury

Our firm has extensive experience in representing personal injury cases such as death claims, wrongful death, negligence, nursing home abuse, boat injury and recreational injury, dog bite, auto accident, airplane accident, police misconduct, and other
bodily injuries.

Worker’s Compensation

We have successful experience in defending and prosecuting worker’s compensation cases and social security disability, work-place accidents and injuries.

Stephen King was appointed by Governor James Blanchard to the Worker’s Compensation Appeal Board and decided appeal cases from 1989-91.

Probate

Probate is a legal process that begins with
a petition to open an estate and name a
personal  representative who is responsible
for the administration of the decedent’s property.
We can assist in handing the public notice,
creditor claim filing, debt payment and
distribution of the remaining estate. Then
a petition for discharge is filed and the estate
is closed.

Sound simple? Probate law and the handling
of estates is in fact a complex system which
presents multiple requirements and tasks to
be performed by the personal representative,
an experienced attorney and a tax consultant.

Estate Planning

Our attorneys are well-versed in all phases of
trust and estate administration. We can also
assist in charitable planning. Trusts and
estate matters unfortunately sometimes give
rise to disputes. We represent beneficiaries
and fiduciaries in estate and trust litigation.
Our network includes trust officers, accountants,
planners, life insurance agents and others as
needed to meet the needs of our clients.
